Ayurveda is a traditional Indian healing system that aims to balance the body, mind, and soul. The Ayurveda therapy programmes at the Monte-da-Bela-Vista Ayurveda Centre are tailored to an individual’s symptoms or health conditions (Vikriti) and constitution (Prakriti). They are based on the premise that health and emotional/psychological issues arise from imbalances in the so-called “doshas.”.
The Ayurveda therapy programme includes several elements:
- Diet: During the therapy, you will enjoy meals harmoniously tailored to your dosha situation. In Ayurveda, it is recommended that each meal contains all six tastes – sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent. The individual components are specifically adjusted to your personal needs. Certain foods, spices, and herbs are preferred or avoided depending on your physical condition. In an accompanying nutrition workshop, you will also learn how to cook balanced and simple meals at home – we promise!
- Body Treatments and Massages: The most well-known Ayurvedic treatment in the West is the full-body oil massage (Abhyanga), which uses healing plant oils, usually based on sesame or coconut oil. However, there are many other procedures that are individually tailored to your symptoms or health conditions and applied during the therapy. An overview of these procedures can be found here.
- Ayurvedic Medication/Herbal Treatments: Ayurveda uses a wide variety of healing plants, which are taken as infusions or teas, decoctions (kwatham), tablets, fermentations (arishta), medicated ghee, or in powder form (churna). The medication is individually tailored to your symptom or health condition.
- Meditation and Yoga: Mental and emotional balance is an essential part of Ayurvedic therapy. Meditation, breathing exercises (Pranayama), and yoga help calm the mind, reduce stress, and promote inner balance.
- Lifestyle Adjustments: In addition to diet (Ahara), a supportive lifestyle and suitable living conditions are crucial components of Ayurvedic therapy and disease prevention. Sleep habits, stress management, and activities that strengthen general well-being and immunity play a central role. During the cure, we will extensively address these factors and show you how to easily develop a health-promoting lifestyle. Even small changes can have a big impact. Let yourself be surprised!
